Google+ Opens To The Public

  • If you were scrambling for a Google+ invitation, you’re in in luck. The social media service is now open to the public. After nearly 3 months of testing with a limited audience, Google Inc. has opened up Google+ to everyone. Until this point, users could only become members if they were sent an invitation.

According to Google Inc.’s blog, 91 improvements have been made to the site during the limited exposure. This includes changes to its photo sharing feature and enhancing the Hangouts video conferencing feature by making it available on select smart phones. Users will also be able to use the “Hangouts on Air” feature to record and broadcast group chats.

Google+ is the search engines answer to social media beast Facebook, which boasts a membership of 750 million users. Right now, Google+ has around 10 million people signed up. Nevertheless, Google+ has many of the same perks in addition to some cool features missing from Facebook. Not surprisingly, Facebook will be launching upgrades and new features at the f8 Developer Conference later this week.

May the battle for social media supremacy continue!
