CherryOnTop On The Scene: Lights All Night (Dallas, TX)
-
In the center of a glowing downtown Dallas, hundreds of LED-clad youngsters anxiously waited in line outside of the Dallas Convention Center. Lights All Night, a two-day New Year’s Eve event, had been heavily promoted to the rave-savvy through various social networks. The massive lineup featured a variety of electronic sounds from house music heavyweights like Tiesto and Benny Bennassi, to big name dubstep producers like Flux Pavilion and Excision. Three stages were set up in the venue – the Dance Hall, the Bass Hall and the Groove Hall – each of which had its own brand of electronic music catered to it. The Dance Hall served as the main stage, the (appropriately titled) Bass Hall was home to a majority dubstep producers, including a plethora of body rattling subwoofers piled across underneath the stage, and the Groove Hall featured a more laid-back approach while still maintaining the dancy, club feel. Each hall was filled with glowing attendees, cutting a rug the entire night. Mash-up scientist Girl Talk started the New Year’s Eve countdown during his sweaty set in the Dance Hall, and a shower of confetti and balloons in every hall followed at midnight. The EDM (Electronic Dance Music) scene has reached a gaining popularity at an alarming rate in 2011. Lights All Night doubled as a celebration of electronic music and a major way to kick off the new year.
