She has appeared on BET’s The BETJ List as a featured unsigned artist and on the MTV reality show, The City. She has been blessed to share her amazing vocals at popular music venues such as Joe Pubs, CBGB’s, Village Underground, The Groove, Crash Mansion, The Shrine and S.O.B.’s. On October 15, 2011, Esnavi shared the stage with Eric Benet, Johnny Gill, Tyrese, Naughty by Nature, Queen Latifah, Lenny Williams, Goapele, N’Dambi, and many others in The Taste of Soul Festival hosted by 102.3 KJLH in Los Angeles, CA.

CherryOnTop was able to catch up with Esnavi backstage at “The Apollo Music Cafe” where we talked about her album EXIT E (released on iTunes and digital stores worldwide), and her first single, “Unexpected Love”, which has been on the top 40 Urban Adult Contemporary Chart for 18 weeks. Check it out below:
What is the meaning behind the name Esnavi?
E: Eclectic, Soulful, Natural, Authentic, Vivacious, Intriguing
When did you discover singing was your passion?
E: During college.
How did you come up with the title of your album Exit E?
E: As I was working on the album, I felt like the songs were taking me on a musical journey. From the production, lyrical content and arrangement. So I came up with EXIT E to symbolize my stop on the music highway where you can experience that journey with me.
Why was “Unexpected Love” your first chosen single to be released?
E: It was most favored by radio stations to be the first single.
Who are some artist that inspire you, and where do you get your inspiration from?
E: I’m inspired by the universe, society and love.
Are there any artists that you would like to collaborate with in the future?
E: Several, but right now my radar is on The Roots and Robert Glasper. I’m up for a collaboration that would display my versatility in a hip-hop/jazz fusion world.
What does soul music mean to you?
E: Music that comes purely from your soul. Music that you believe every word of it when it’s delivered. Music that stimulates your soul.
What are some obstacles you had to face along the way?
E: I don’t let anything stand in my way, so I haven’t perceived anything as an obstacle since I’ve been pursing my career.
What advice can you give to other artist trying to make it in the industry?
E: Be true to who you are.
