Let Them Eat (Birthday) Cake: An Opinion Piece On The Rihanna And Chris Brown Collaboration Controversy
-

There has been much controversy surrounding the much anticipated (or anxiety filled) collaboration between Rihanna and Chris Brown, and their latest single “Birthday Cake”. The views on this union are polarizing to say the least. So much so, that even Billboard magazine issued an open statement concerning the two, and how inappropriate this would be for both. Well I say…whose side are we really on?
Sometimes I get confused on the subject of victimization. I mean, I was always taught to never hit a women, but I can use her for a sex doll anytime I choose. I was taught to open the door for a lady, but she was to walk one step behind me. I know the absolute power that women and the female species posses, so I find it odd when people still want to victimize women as if they can’t make up their on minds, and perhaps aren’t stronger than any living thing aound (I mean, have you ever seen childbirth?). Furthermore, I find it disheartening that people want to continue to victimize a young woman who is not only at the top of her game, but also has an independence and savvy that has taken her to the top many times. I would never condone violence towards a woman, or man for that matter, but I am all about turning the “proverbial cheek” when offended. The real abuse is making Rihanna relive the past over and over again by telling her she should feel vicitimized. We weren’t in the car with them the night of the now infamous assault, and the two have yet to give explicit details on what actually went on, yet we have found a way to diminish both their credits as competent adults who are capable of making their own decisions. I am by no means defending Chris’ terrible actions. However, I will admire Rihanna’s resilience in showing that she won’t be victimized, and will continue to rock on as the beautiful and talented woman she is.
Frankly, it’s not really any of our business, but we all know that’s how fame works. So why not celebrate a dope collaboration between two young, gifted and black superstars. And for all the haters still talking that talk, I say… let them eat (birthday) cake.

GREAT ARTICLE. I AGREE!!!!
Folks need to mind their damn business. None of us was there. If Rhianna can turn the other cheek, so should everyone else. She and Chris knows what happened that night, and any other night. Obviously, she is over it.
