The Emmy Awards have come and gone, but the fashion and beauty still lingers in our minds. The staple beauty looks all paraded down the red carpet, but the ones we can’t get out of our mind are the wild card looks. And none were quite as wild as that of January Jones. Although the look may be a tad bit overwhelming for some, we applaud her for stepping outside of the box and embracing a look very avant-garde. It may not be for the faint of heart, but for those of you out there ready to set a blaze to your current smokey eye routine, this look may be for you.
Celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin “wanted her whole look to have a dramatic high fashion feel to it, not passive but of real intentional glamour”. She used Chanel’s new collection “Blue Illusion de Chane” in its entirety. This limited addition color collection was created by Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, to portray the intangible hues of summer blue. First seen at the Chanel 2012 Spring Summer Haute Couture show, the collection perfectly complemented Karl Lagerfeld’s sea of blue on the runway, and did the same for Ms. Jones.
Her lid is accented with Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eye Shadow in “Apparition” and accompanied with “Destination” through the crease and extending out toward for a fiercely dramatic effect. White eyeliner placed in her waterline supported the dark look by brightening the eye while creating contrast. Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Pencil in Bleu Aérien was used to frame the upper and lower lash line and both eye shadows were used to help smoke out the lower lash line even more. The lighter blue shadow was used on the inner eye and inner lash line, and the darker blue was used to blend out the rest of the liner and was swept out towards the hairline for extra added drama. The eyes were topped off with number 3 lashes by MAC Cosmetics.
A perfect balance to a strong eye were the natural pink lips and blush January also sported. The blush, also by Chanel, is called Joues Contraste. The unique powder blusher offers buildable coverage from natural to dramatic, has a silky texture, and comes with the perfect brush to ensure seamless application. Finally, her lips were topped with Chanel’s Rouge de Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour in Chintz. From eyes to lips to cheeks, this look is absolutely fan-worthy, and deserves an Emmy all its own.
