During a Thursday night’s episode of American Idol, Nicki Minaj threatened to leave the show if contestant Curtis Finch, Jr. was voted off. Prior to Ryan’s announcement of who was getting sent home, Nicki called the country out on the issue, saying, “Curtis, if you go home, I go home. I definitely think Curtis should not be in the bottom two … I mean — come on, America, are you kidding me?”
The “Starships” rapper’s fellow judge Keith Urban agreed, but didn’t threaten to leave. Check out the drama in the video below.
attempt to completely makeover her style. She supposedly wants to be taken more seriously as an artist, and thinks her current image has something to do with people not respecting her. The “Starships” rapper recently denied she had any plastic surgery done to her face, so perhaps her firing her beauty team is an attempt to be more natural. Nicki wants to release another hip hop album and move beyond her American Idol judging days. Do you think Nicki will dump the colorful wigs and questionable outfits for a more glamorous and natural look?
Sure, Randy Jackson’s back on the judging panel of American Idol, and as a newbie, Keith Urban is pretty cool. Overall, there were some interesting contestants and great talent, but let’s face it, this season of AI will definitely be all about Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey!
As funny as it was to most of us to watch the dueling divas go back and forth during the show’s premiere, Wendy Williams wasn’t as entertained. She spoke about Wednesday night’s premiere on Thursday’s episode of her daytime talk show, saying of Nicki and Mariah being on the show together, “it’s too much.” Check it out in the video below. Do you agree?
During a recent visit to Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show to promote the new season of American Idol, Nicki Minaj dished on her much-talked-about feud with her fellow AI judge, Mariah Carey. Saying she felt “shade” when she first joined the show, Nicki revealed what led to the explosive argument between she and the pop diva during an AI stop in North Carolina that was all caught on tape. She told Ellen:
“I don’t know. It was just two big old divas I guess… before I went in there I heard all the stuff that was being said but I didn’t believe it. I heard them saying Mariah doesn’t want you on the panel but I was like, no. I am friends with Mariah.”
“I went there and I started to feel a bit of the shade. And I just kind of over compensated by being crazier.”
Despite how much attention their feud got (and allegations of a gun threat), the head Barb told Ellen that she and Mariah have resolved their issues, saying:
“We’re fine. I cannot hold a grudge against Mariah Carey. What people don’t understand is that I’ve looked up to her for so many years.”
Check out more from Nicki’s interview with Ellen in the video below:
ki Minaj during an American Idol audition in North Carolina last October. Speaking on how she felt after the incident, which was caught on tape and made headlines everywhere, Mariah said she felt “unsafe” working on the FOX reality talent competition alongside the Young Money rapper. She told Barbara Walters on Good Morning America on Monday:
“It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate.”
Mariah admits to hiring more security after the confrontation, during which Nicki allegedly threatened to shoot the 42-year-old pop icon. She told Barbara:
“Sitting there on the road with two babies. I’m not going to take any chances.”
We’ll see if the drama draws in viewers when the new season of AI premieres Wednesday, January 16 on FOX at 8pm. Check out Mariah’s comments in their entirety in the video below.
ality talent competition American Idol, the “Right by My Side” rapper admitted in a recent interview that she was concerned about how appearing on the show would affect her credibility in the rap world. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
“Among Minaj’s concerns: her cred in the rap world, for one. As an artist signed to Cash Money Records — home to her mentor Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean and DJ Khaled and a label that has sold more than 78 million albums since its founding in 1991 — she points to ‘a judgmental culture in hip-hop,’ where ‘sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it’s almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I’m still surprised that I decided to do it.'”
In the end, it was FOX’s president of alternative programming, Mike Darnell, who convinced Nicki to do the show. She told THR:
“He was so lovable and made me feel so comfortable and confident. He kept saying, ‘I promise we’re going to protect you; you’re going to love it, we’re a big family.'”
Considering Nicki comes off as more of a pop artist, we’re surprised her credibility in the hip-hop world was even a factor in her decision to do the show. Although we haven’t watched AI since Fantasia Barrino, we’re going to give it a look this upcoming season just to see what she and Mariah will bring to the table. Hopefully, they’ll bring some much-needed flavor to what has become just another bland TV talent competition.
ments he made during a recent interview with MTV News. While comparing the current panel of American Idol judges to his stint on the show, the Aerosmith frontman said, “If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.”
Obviously offended by his comments, Nicki took to her Twitter page to respond, saying:
“Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet. I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment. You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f–k yourself and worry about yourself babe.”
Referring to her fellow AI judge Mariah Carey, who told Barbara Walters during an interview that the head Barb had threatened her, Nicki added:
“LOL lets make him a shirt that says ‘No Coloreds Allowed’ then escort him down 2 Barbara Walters so he can tell how he was threatened w/guns. When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.”
Do you think that Steven’s comments were racist, or do you think Nicki is being overly sensitive? Let us know by leaving us a comment below.
Nicki Minaj recently told E! online that she is open to the idea of performing with Mariah Carey on American Idol. When asked, she said “I would do that…I think people would be interested in seeing that.” The on set feud between the judges has made headlines.
In an interview during a recent visit to London, TLC member T-Boz said she is not a fan of Nicki Minaj being on American Idol. She said of the head Barb’s ability to pick talent, “How the hell is she gon’ tell me what I should be doing when her ass can’t even sing.”
In the midst of prepping for his debate last night, President Obama spoke on the drama between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj in an interview with “The Yo Show”. The President revealed that he’s confident the two ladies will work it out on their own without his presidential intervention, explaining that he thinks “both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not going backwards.”
If the President says it’s cool, then it must be cool. Check out the rest of his interview for yourself below to hear what he had to say about which of these lovely ladies he prefers, his first job, and other interesting tidbits about the POTUS himself.
The relationship between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey is being described as “oil-and-water”, and according to a source, the tension between the two is “crazy”. According to RadarOnline:
“The wife of Nick Cannon, sources say, ‘is genuinely afraid’ after the Super Bad singer went off on her during the show’s auditions in North Carolina, when she declared, ‘I’m not f***ing putting up with her highness over there – figure it the f*** out, figure it out.’
The feud was further fueled when Minaj threatened to brandish a gun on Mariah, as told to Barbara Walters by the Vision of Love singer, who said she had to beef up security after the bold statement.
While Carey blew off the rumors – saying, ‘A feud takes a little longer than two days!’ – an insider says Mariah ‘is genuinely afraid’ and irritated by Nicki’s antics, and probably wouldn’t have even signed onto the Fox program if she knew she wouldn’t be the only woman on the panel.
In addition, Nicki’s late arrivals have grated on Carey’s nerves, a source told US magazine, adding “Mariah thinks it’s rude and holds up production.”
Still, in spite of the dueling divas, show officials are tickled pink over the buzz they hope to garner from the toxic mix.
‘They’re thrilled with Nicki,’ an insider says. ‘The execs love the drama … they feel like they’ve struck gold.'”
Of course they feel that way. This is the most anyone has talked about AI in years. If it wasn’t for the drama going on between Mariah and Nicki, the next season of the show would be one big yawn just like the last several seasons.
Mariah Carey’s loyal husband, radio/television personality, actor, and comedian Nick Cannon, thinks the feud between his diva wife and Nicki Minaj on the set of American Idol has been blown out of proportion, or as he puts it, “sensationalized”. Check out what he told TMZ about the situation when they caught up with him on the Santa Monica Pier earlier today in the video below:
There will be no peace after all (at least not now). Apparently, Nicki Minaj thinks she’s being manipulated by American Idol producers and Mariah Carey’s team into acting a damn fool for the sake of ratings…and she’s threatening to walk off set if it doesn’t stop! According to TMZ:
“Sources connected with Nicki tell us … she’s convinced producers — along with members of Mariah’s team — are conspiring to get under her skin … because they think a pissed off Minaj will bring in viewers.
We’re told Nicki is adamant … she won’t be anyone’s puppet and if she feels she’s being set up, she vows to ‘cut it off at the head.’ As for how, she says for starters, the next time Mariah ‘acts up,’ Nicki is walking off the set.
There’s just one problem with her theory — we know ‘Idol’ producers were genuinely shocked and upset by Tuesday’s outburst. Our very connected ‘Idol’ sources tell us the big wigs were completely flat footed and they are doing everything they can to restore peace — which they successfully did Wednesday.”
This whole situation is just hilarious to us!! We’re almost certain AI producers brought Nicki on board with the hope that it would lead to drama, but they probably didn’t imagine it would get anything like this!!
Apparently, the video that emerged the other day showing Nicki Minaj cursing out Mariah Carey during the American Idol auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina may have had a positive effect on the atmosphere on the show’s set. According to
“We’re told from outward appearances at least … Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj buried the hatchet and were civil with each other during the entire day of auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Our sources say everyone was ’embarrassed’ by the outburst between Nicki and Mariah captured on video and posted on TMZ. They apparently took it to heart. Our spies say the confrontation “shocked everyone back into place.”
We’re told aside from everyone getting along, the talent was great and the judges meshed together better than just about any configuration the show has ever had.”
Things just got real between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey at the American Idol auditions. The head Barb was caught on tape yesterday giving Mariah a verbal lashing with the kind of words that would make your grandmother blush. According to TMZ:
“Nicki Minaj derailed the ‘American Idol’ auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina today, after swearing at Mariah Carey and threatening, “I’m gonna knock you out” … sources tell TMZ.
In the footage, obtained by TMZ, Nicki is clearly furious … shouting, ‘I told them, I’m not f*ckin’ putting up with her f*ckin’ highness over there.’
Sources say Nicki later threatened to ‘knock out’ Mariah … but that part wasn’t captured on tape.
It all went down while the two were sitting at the judge’s table … with Keith Urban sitting in between them and Randy Jackson sitting on the far end, next to Mariah.
We’re told the whole thing exploded over a disagreement about a contestant’s performance.
According to our friends at MouthToEars.com, producers ended the auditions for the day so the two judges could cool down.
Big wigs on the show seem uncharacteristically upset by the blow up — it appears this was no joke and it seems producers are worried about Mariah and Nicki co-existing for the long haul.”
The next season of AI is going to look a lot more like The Bad Girls Club than a talent competition!! If the show’s producers are smart, they will let this thing play out. We haven’t watched a season of AI since Fantasia, but we will NOT miss it as long as Nick and Mimi are sitting at the judges’ table!!!
